Balsam
Privacy Policy
Last updated 18 August 2026. Applies to the Balsam mobile app and to sadeed.org.
Balsam is operated by Sadeed. This policy explains what the app collects, why, who else sees it, and how to have it deleted. If anything here is unclear, email support@sadeed.org and ask.
What we collect
Account and profile
When you register we collect your phone number or email address, and the password or sign-in method you choose. On your profile you may also give a display name, date of birth, gender, a photo, a short introduction, the languages you speak, and the topics you want to talk about. Listeners additionally submit the details required for verification and payout.
Calls and messages
We keep a record of your calls and chats: who they were with, when they started, how long they lasted, and what they cost in coins. Chat messages are stored so that your conversations are still there when you reopen the app. Voice and video calls are carried live between the two devices and are not recorded by us. Listeners may upload a short voice sample to their own profile.
Coins and payments
We keep your coin balance, your purchase history, your gift history, and — for listeners — earnings and withdrawal requests. Card and billing details are handled by the payment provider you use, not by us; we receive only confirmation that a payment succeeded and the amount.
Device and technical data
We collect a device identifier, your notification token, app version, and basic connection information. This is what lets us ring the right phone for an incoming call and stop the same account being used on two devices at once.
Reports and moderation
If you report or block another user, we keep the report, the reason you gave, and the account it was about, so our moderation team can act on it and see patterns across reports.
Why we collect it
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To connect calls and deliver messages between you and listeners.
- To match you with listeners by topic and language.
- To sell coins, deduct them correctly, and pay listeners.
- To send call, message, and account notifications.
- To investigate reports, prevent fraud, and keep people safe.
- To answer you when you contact support.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not record your calls. There is no advertising in Balsam, and no third-party advertising or tracking software in the app. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
Who else processes your data
We use a small number of service providers, and only for the purposes above:
- Google Firebase — sign-in, and push notifications for calls and messages.
- ZEGOCLOUD — the live voice and video connection between you and the other person.
- Payment providers — Apple, Google, and the card processors enabled in your region, which handle the purchase itself.
- Our hosting provider — the servers that store your account and message history.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone from harm.
Other users
What you put on your profile — display name, photo, introduction, age, gender, languages, topics — is visible to other people in the app. Anything you say in a chat is visible to the person you said it to. Your phone number and email address are never shown to another user.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account we remove your profile, your messages, and your call history within 30 days. We keep transaction records longer where tax and accounting rules require it, and we keep moderation records relating to reports made about serious conduct.
Your choices
- Edit or remove most profile details from inside the app at any time.
- Turn notifications off in your phone’s settings.
- Block any user, which stops all contact between you.
- Delete your account from Settings, or ask us to do it — see how.
- Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing support@sadeed.org. We respond within 30 days.
Children
Balsam is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18 we delete it. If you believe a child is using Balsam, tell us at support@sadeed.org.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access to production systems is limited to the people who need it. No service can promise perfect security, so please use a password you don’t use anywhere else, and tell us straight away if you think someone else has got into your account.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page, and where the change is significant we will notify you in the app.
Who we are
